Robes Come In A Variety Of Fabric And Color Choices

With so many different robes now available, deciding on the right one can be confusing. Keep in mind that no matter where you decide to buy a bathrobe, a “one size fits most” may not be suitable for you. Manufacturers introduced “one size fits most” apparel to lessen the amount of inventory they have to carry. Depending on whom the bathrobe is for, you may prefer to purchase a more fitted style so keep that in mind when shopping.

The most important feature of a robe is the fabric, which defines the touch, feel, absorbency, and the overall weight. Fabric types can range from traditional cotton and classic satin to warm cashmere and plush microfibers. You should choose one in the fabric that is the best match to how it will mainly be used.

Microfiber fabric is finer than silk, and more lightweight and breathable than other natural and synthetic fibers. It can be woven and brushed into a suede finished fabric for a luxurious, soft feel similar to that of satin and silk or it can be placed into a “splitting” process to create millions of micro-loops giving it incredible water absorbency to enhance its soft and lightweight characteristics. Bathrobes made of this fabric are excellent for lounging around and is ideal for use throughout the year. Dual layer microfiber spa robes use a combination of brushed microfiber as the outer shell and cotton terry as the inner lining. The silky exterior gives it a sleek look and a suede feel while the long loop terry interior gives it the necessary water absorption ability and softness.

Waffle weaved cotton has a squared or diamond checker pattern. Most are reasonably priced and the 100% cotton characteristic naturally makes the material absorbent but the downside is it can shrink.
Cotton terry robes have been around for a very long time and are commonly used in towels and classic bathrobes. They have good water absorption ability especially if the fabric density/weight is high but can be thick and heavy especially when absorbed with water. Again, due to the 100% cotton characteristic of the fabric, it can shrink.
Cotton velour fabric feels similar to velvet, and is soft and thick, warm and insulating. Make sure the velour robe you choose has a high cotton content no lower than 80% cotton.

Besides the many fabric choices, the robes come in a wonderful array of colors so it is easy to pick a shade that the recipient will love.
