New Choir Robes

All the hard work is over. You've raised the money, evaluated the fabric, chosen the color, picked the stole, measured the singers, waited for delivery, and now, finally, your brand new choir robes are here. But the work is not over yet. Now it is time to dedicate them to the glory of God. Here is a sample litany which can be sued for this solemn, yet joyous, occasion. ——————— Pastor: When we look throughout church history, robes have had defining significance as a symbol for those set apart for special duties. There were robes designed to designate authority as in: ruler/potentate, Pope, educators, teaching elders, judges, and choirs. There were robes designed to bring those desiring to be part of a believing congregation through the baptismal waters and into the house of God and the family of believers. There were robes made from all types of fabrics with all kinds of colors. There were songs sung over the years which brought to mind the fact that people believed that as angels, they would be wearing “white robes.” Thing about songs like Down by the Riverside…”I’m going to put on my long white robe….” or All God’s Chillun’ Got Robes…”I got a robe, you got a robe, all God’s chillun’ got robes….” And the wonderful spiritual, Ain'a That Good News… which says, “I got a robe up in-a that kingdom, ain'a that Good News.” When you look at what we are doing here on earth as a rehearsal for what we all will be doing in heaven, we can say…We've got new choir robes to glorify our Lord. Ain'a that Good News?! Let us celebrate this responsively and together. Choir: To you, our holy God, we bring our praises strong. We call on all to laud and sing your joyful song. Sing Praise to God, who is the sovereign of all things. All: O Praise the Lord! People: You rule with might and strength Above the firmament We call on all in heaven and earth to give assent. Sing praise to God, who is the sovereign of all things.
